Economic Community of West African States
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional political and economic union of fifteen countries located in West Africa.
Established on May 28, 1975, with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, ECOWAS aims to promote economic integration across the region, achieving collective self-sufficiency by creating a single large trading bloc.
The Authority of Heads of State and Government meets twice a year to deliberate on matters affecting the Community and set policy directions that shape the future of West Africa.
